Managing Shared Fields on a Nominode

Managing Shared Fields on a Nominode

A Shared Field is used to represent a single option value that is reused in many different Tasks.  Using a Shared Field allows you update a value one time, in a single place, rather than needing to update the value in each of the Tasks where it is used.

Creating a Shared Field

  1. Click on Shared Fields in the middle of the left hand navigation menu of your Nominode.
  2. Click on the Create Shared Field button in the upper right hand corner of the page.
  3. Type or pick a data type for the Shared Field.
  4. Click on the OK button.
  5. Assign a meaningful alias and a specific value for your Shared Field.
  6. Click on the Create button on the right hand side of the page or the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Editing a Shared Field

  1. Click on Shared Fields in the middle of the left hand navigation menu of your Nominode.
  2. Locate your Shared Field in the list, using the search fields, if necessary.
  3. Click on the alias of the Shared Field in the Alias column.
  4. Click on the Unlock button on the righthand side of the page.
  5. You can now modify the alias for your Shared Field and the value associated with it.
  6. Click on the Save button on the right hand side of the page or the Save button at the bottom of the page.
  7. All Tasks using the Shared Field will now automatically use the updated value.

Using a Shared Field in a Task

  1. Click on Tasks at the top of the left hand navigation menu of your Nominode.
  2. Use the Select Project field at the top of the page to select the Project that your Task is associated with.
  3. Locate the Task where you want to use a Shared Field in the list, using the search fields, if necessary.
  4. Click on the name of the Task in the Task Name column.
  5. Click on the Unlock button on the right hand side of the page.
  6. Click on the Shared Field icon ( ꝏ ) above the field where you want to use a Shared Field value.
  7. Type or pick the alias of your Shared Field in the Shared Field Select dropdown menu.
  8. Note that the value of the field will become gray, disallowing editing, and will reflect the current value of the Shared Field selected.
  9. The Shared Field icon will become an x ( X ).   If the Shared Field icon is clicked again, the Shared Field will be disassociated with the field.  But its value will remain in editable form, as if it have been typed in.
  10. Click on the Save button on the right hand side of the page.
  11. If a Shared Field's value is edited, all fields that have been associated with that Shared Field will automatically use the new value without need to edit or resave the Tasks they are in.

Deleting a Shared Field

  1. Click on Shared Fields in the middle of the left hand navigation menu of your Nominode.

  3. Click on the alias of the Shared Field in the Alias column.
